Hello to all our friends.

Border Information

It is most likely that by summer 2008 passports will be required to cross the American border. The exact date is yet to be announced, but to avoid delays and ensure a hassle free crossing we recommend applying for a passport well before your scheduled vacation.  As cancellations due to guests not having a passport can have a large impact on our business, deposits for cancellations cannot be refunded.

Outside work at the Lodge continued well into the fall this year with the Manor getting a new roof and also the Lakeview units being re-shingled. Waterfront bathrooms are also being added and will be completed shortly. Renovations in the main Lodge will continue in the new year so all the Lodge rooms should be  renovated by spring 2008.

We are making several changes to the waterfront operations this year in order to accommodate our guests better. When a boat is reserved on the day of arrival the rental will now start at noon and you will be charged for the rental that 1/2 day whether you actually use the boat or not. In the past many people have reserved the boat but then have not arrived early enough to use, it or simply decided not to. This often leaves a boat that other guests want to rent sitting at the dock all day not being rented. Also by starting your boat rental at noon on day of arrival this will give us time to make sure the boat is serviced and ready for your use. The 14 foot fiberglass boats will still be available for early rental on day of arrival if necessary.

This year, due to the declining American dollar, we have had to increase our rates more than usual. Because we set our rates in American funds, as a convenience to our customers, we are very vulnerable to currency fluctuations. With over a 25% drop in value over the last year, and the American dollar currently valued at several cents less than the Canadian dollar, even by increasing our rates as we have this year, it costs our customers less now to stay with us, than it did a few years ago with a stronger dollar. We expect the US dollar will eventually even out, and that our increase this year will be adequate. However, should the dollar continue to decline the 2008 rates will be subject to further change.

Charlotte Our long time friend and employee has decided to make a major change in her life, and consequently ours. We have known her for over 30 years and she has been employed by us for the last 13. Starting in housekeeping within a few short years she was soon running our office and involved in all aspects of the business. Because of her incredible work ethic she has allowed our business to grow in ways that would not have been possible without her. In gratitude for the amazing job she has done for us and you, we sent her on a vacation to anywhere in the world she wanted to go. Fittingly she chose the neat and organized country of Switzerland where she hiked in the Swiss mountains near the Matterhorn and tells us she had a wonderful time.  As she has her 5th grandchild on the way I’m sure her time is going to be well occupied. We wish her all the best as I’m sure you all do.

Sport Shows

Due to declining interest in the sports shows by our patrons and sportsmen in general, this will be our final year attending the sport shows. We are currently looking at other forms of advertising in our market area. We look forward to welcoming you at this year's shows.

We hope to see all our old guests soon and our excellent staff is waiting to serve you. Thank you for including us in your vacation plans.

The Hill family.
